Ngā Manu Korero Wānanga

On May 25th Te Pae Māhuri facilitated a workshop for Otago based rangatahi interested in competing at Ngā Manu Korero. The purpose of the workshop was to build confidence and quality in both english and Māori speakers in Ngā Manu Korero.

Our goal was to increase the number of speakers competing in the Māori divisions, as well as the quality of the english speakers. We also want to provide support for our senior speakers with impromptu.

The workshop was delivered by previous winners of Ngā Manu Korero and te reo Māori language experts. Facilitators worked with rakatahi to develop their ideas around their chosen topic, help with speech structure and the presentation of ideas. All rakatahi, including junior speakers, took part in impromptu practice and presented their speeches to their roopu.

We are looking forward to watching these rakatahi take their ideas to the regional Ngā Manu Korero competition later this year!

We hope to run this kaupapa annually to continue supporting rakatahi to share their whakaaro with the motu.
